Received a ‘rocky start’ on my first english paper. Transitioning to the mode of thinking here is not a lot of fun, nor seemingly beneficial to developing my mode of expression. I feel as if I am being asked to not relate anything back to myself, I cannot narrate my feelings about a text. I wasn’t a student last year, I was a learner, able to engage with a text and my professors. Here I am viewed as another kid who’s too informal and concerned with how he feels about a text. Fuck you england and your archaic enlightenment based ideals.

Today in arabic I learned what the name means more in depth. I already knew it meant “Oh Night”, but today we covered the vocab for night and when I thought back, “ya” kind of signifies who you’re talking to. So I asked these girls if it meant more like “hey night!” and they immediately asked if it was a song. From there they explained that night, in arabic, has this kind of symbol that surrounds it. It signifies things such as serenity, peace, solitude, calm, and the like. So instead of ya addressing the night, it means “oh night”, it signifies being a bit overwhelmed -in a good way- with what you’re addressing. Especially the night I guess.
Beautiful, eh?
